President’s proposed budget includes small increases for BSEE and BOEM

No Progress since last year’s budget increase for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement
The budget for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement increased from $133,512 million in FY 2011 (the 12 months ending September 30, 2011) to $182,456 million in FY 2012 (a 36 percent increase). The President’s budget requested another increase to $207,280 million for FY 2013. The BOEM budget has been essentially flat over the same period.
President’s Budget Calls for Increased Resources for Regulatory Programs
Compared to the fiscal year 2012 budget, the President’s proposed fiscal year 2014 budget calls for a 13.6% increase in funds and a 9% increase in staffing for BSEE, and a 5.3% increase in funds and a 1.4% increase in staffing for BOEM. Read More: BSEE Budget; BOEM Budget

A key European Parliament committee has approved new rules for deep-water oil drilling that tighten environmental liability requirements on energy companies.
